'Chandni Chowk to China' released widely

The much-awaited film 'Chandni Chowk to China', billed as the first ever Bollywood kung fu comedy, is released across the country on Friday.
Cast of the film got candid with the media on their visit here last evening.

The film tells the tale of a poor cook travelling to China to become a Kung fu hero.

The film, whose title refers to the bustling Chandni Chowk market of Delhi, is the studio's first Indian production.

The movie starring Bollywood star Akshay Kumar who has made more than 120 films, has high-quality martial arts action directed by veteran Huen Chi-Ku of the "Kill Bill: Vols. 1 and 2," and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" fame.

The film, which has generated quite an interest amongst the public through its promos, is according to its director, a 'completely brainless' comedy.

"I'm saying that he is brainless, but he brings that kind of comedy and that kind of energy into a film. They make the impossible look possible," said Nikhil Advani, drector.

One day, while cutting vegetables at a roadside food stall, superstitious Sidhu (Akshay Kumar) spies a potato in the shape of Ganesha. By a coincidence, he meets two mysterious Chinese men who, thinking him as a reincarnation of a mighty war hero, request him to vanquish a villain terrorizing their village.

Parallels are being drawn between actor Akshay's real life before he entered Bollywood and his reel role of Sidhu in the film.

Born and brought up in Chandni Chowk, Akshay was a cook prior to his joining films. He said his reel role only partially resembled his real life.

"I'm playing a cook. I'm playing a martial artiste and I'm born in Chandni Chowk. These are the two-three things that are common, rest is absolutely fictional," said Aksha..

Deepika Padukone, Mithun Chakraborty and Roger Yuan also feature in this ambitious project.

Playing a double role in the movie Deepika said she gave her best to both the characters she played.

"I think very few actresses get this opportunity to do a double role in a movie. I've given my best in both the characters," said Deepika.

The film opened today in India and on more than 125 screens in the United States and Canada.

The film, which Kumar said cost about eight million dollars, is also being released in 30 other countries.
