Anamika (2008)

Filmmaker Anant Mahadevan has seldom gone wrong with the choice of music for his films. Ok, so Victoria No. 203 which released last year may have been an aberration but his track record over the years - Dil Vil Pyaar Vyaar, Dil Maange More, Aggar and the biggest of all - Aksar - has been pretty impressive to say the least. This is why one expects a decent score in the offering, especially with Anu Malik (arriving after a hiatus) and Sameer coming together. Eventually this is what one gets in the end - a soundtrack that is just about decent!

Shaan gets a solo for himself in the form of 'Shagufta Dil', which is pretty much early 90's and doesn't actually break any new grounds. Off late there have been quite a few heard-before-seen-all numbers sung by Shaan and 'Shagufta Dil' is yet another addition to that not-so-impressive list. The song tries to be all hip-n-happening with Western arrangements trying to pep up the feel but not to much avail. In the end, a kind of number that would hardly contribute to burning the charts, even in its Jatin Sharma created 'remix version', which hardly adds any value to the album!

Pyare Mohan (2006)

Pyare Mohan was movie quite hilarious. Vivek Oberoi and Fardeen Khan have done a great job, however, they difnitely could have done it better. The film is directed by Inder Kumar and music is directed by Anu Malik. The music is fine but not exceptional. Now you try the songs and tell me what you think.

Main Hoon Na (2004)

This is a request from [Hooi] through the Shoutbox. Thank you for this request Hooi, and enjoy the songs

Main Hoon Na is directorial debut for Farah Khan, who was previously a choreographer. The star cast includes Shahrukh Khan, Zayed Khan, Sushmita Sen, Amrita Rao and Sunil Shetty. Music is by Ranjit Barot and Anu Malik. I think the songs are great, but because I've been exposed to them a lot of times, I have no desire to listen to them again. But I hope you guys enjoy them.

Main Hoon Na is a masala film, which, if not taken seriously, is quite fun to watch. Really interesting action scenes, nice funny lines, and of course Sushmita Sen should be good enough reasons to watch it.

Zindaggi Rocks (2006)

Zindaggi RocksZindaggi Rocks stars Shiney Ahuja as a shy doctor and the gorgeous Sushmita Sen as a fun loving singer, who despite their differences fall in love, and they live happily ever after. But there is a lot to happen before the happy ending which will be unveiled on October 6 in theatres. The film is directed by Tanuja Chandra, and the person of our interest (for now), the music director, is none other than Anu Malik.

This album is quite fun to listen to. Some songs like the title song are quite fast and will get your body moving, while some like Humko Choone Paas Aayiye have a slower pace. I'm sure the songs will be even more pleasant when we lay our eyes on the videos in the near future. Till then, enjoy the audio!

Jaan-E-Mann (2006)

Jaan-E-Mann
"Once upon a time, there was a dude, there was a geek, there was a beauty. The dude and the geek both loved the beauty, but who did the beauty love? Ten years pass. The dude lives in his dream world, the geek lives in space, the beauty lives alone. And then they meet, to fall in love AGAIN." _ Offcial Jaan-E-Mann Website

In this Sajid Nadiadwala film, Salman Khan is the dude, Akshay Kumar is the geek and Preity Zinta is the beauty. The film is directed by Shirish Kunder and music is by Anu Malik. Jaan-E-Mann is one of the movies set to release on Diwali/Eid, taking on other big banner films such as Don and Dhoom2.

I found the songs pretty impressive the first time I listened to them. They aren't catchy and memorable though. These files are much smaller, so listen to 'em for yourselves. I hope you like them.

Umrao Jaan (2006)

Umrao Jaan is claimed to be based on a 1904 novel by Mirza Hadi Ruswa titled Umrao Jaan Ada (according to Bollywood Trivia), but it was generally thought to be a remake of the 1989 film with the same title starring Rekha. The new Umrao Jaan stars Aishwarya Rai, Abhishek Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Suniel Shetty, Puru Rajkumar and Divya Dutta. It is directed by J.P. Dutta.

The music of Umrao Jaan is by Anu Malik. Even though I'm not very fond of this genre of music (don't really know what it is called), I think Mr. Malik has done a pretty good job here. However, the music of the Rekha starrer Umrao Jaan which I for some reason have watched, is much better. I loved the film and the music alike. Rekha was absolutely wonerful. I'm really anxious to see how successfully Aish is going to play the role that was superbly done by Rekha.

Virasat (1997)

VirasatVirasat is a film I have watched quite a while back and is one of my favorite movies. Starring Anil Kapoor, Tabu, Pooja Batra and Amrish Puri, it's directed by Priyadarsan. I don't think I will judge it any differently if I watch it again now, even though my view of Hindi movies has changed a lot since then. Great story, wonderful cast and even better music. I think you will love this film whether you are a fan of Anil or Tabu.

The wonderful music of Virasat is composed by Anu Malik. My personal favorite songs have to be Dhol Bajne Laga and Payalay Chunmun. I hope these songs bring back some good memories for you as they do for me. Enjoy :)

Love Story 2050 (2008)

Love Story 2050Harry Baweja's latest film is Love Story 2050 and, as the name suggests, is a sci-fi and set in the future, in 2050 to be more specific. The protagonists, Karan (Harman Baweja) and Sana (Priyanka Chopra) travel to the future using a time machine built by Dr. Yatinder Khanna (Boman Irani). It's full of special effects. Even though it has been criticized for being amateurish and waste of the huge Rs. 500 million, I give credit to Harry for trying something different. Bollywood seriously needs to make something besides the lame and mindless comedies. Not that they aren't producing any good films, however there's been only a few every year. So kudos to Harry for trying something different.

Music of Love Story is directed by Anu Malik.
